Reliance Jio bans adult websites in India after DOT orders to block 827 adult websites: Report

Reliance Jio has reportedly banned adult websites in India after the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) ordered Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block 827 such websites in the country. While Reliance Jio hasn’t made any official statement that it will be banning such websites on its network, some users have reported on Reddit that they are not able to access adult websites on the Jio network.

"I've been trying to load a few of the adult sites but none of them seems to load on the Jio network. Is it just me or are you people facing the same issues," a Reliance Jio user wrote on Reddit. The same thread had several other Jio users complaining about similar issues. However, it should be noted that while popular adult websites seemed to have been banned by the ISP, some lesser known sites were reportedly working on the network.

For the unknown, the Uttarakhand High Court, in a judgment on September 28, directed all internet service providers (ISP) to comply with the Union government's order under which almost all adult websites were to be banned. The Uttarakhand High Court stated that there is a need to curb unlimited access to adult content or block such websites as they result in adverse influence on impressionable youth.
